This sobering report arrived on my desk today. The International Federation of Health Plans is comprised of “the leading global network of the industry, with one hundred member companies in 30 countries.” Each year they prepare a report that compares pricing for common services.
While the chart shown here gives a taste, what you see in the report is that US costs for identical services are significantly, consistently higher with, presumably, much higher variation as well.
This information represents one important challenge to the sustainability of America current health care system, and its impact on our industries’ global competitiveness.
Deep thanks to Bob Coli, MD for passing this our way.
